Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Book Stipend Award Application

The purpose of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Book Stipend Award is to assist Florida State University students in completing their education.  MLK Book Stipend Awards are available on a competitive basis to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Three awards will be given from the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and an additional three from the Black Alumni Association, for a total of six awards.  Awards will be for the amount of $350, and will be given to three undergraduate students, and three graduate students.  Awards will be available at the FSU Cashier's Office prior to Fall 2010 registration. MLS 2010: Passport to Leadership Values

The Multicultural Leadership Summit, held on the Florida State University campus, focuses on building a foundation of knowledge that will enhance student success in leadership in the areas of multiculturalism and social justice.  On January 30, 2010, MLS will provide students the essential tools to be a leader in a global society. There will be three concurrent sessions corresponding with the following topics: Ethnic/Racial Identities, Multiple Identities (e.g., sexual orientation, gender, multiethnic identity, disability, etc.), and Leadership and Service. Is your organization looking for work space on campus? As of February 1st, 2010, OMA will become the Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA) and will move to a new space. Located in the Center for Global and Multicultural Engagement, or The Globe, CMA will have student organization space on the third floor. This new building will be located next to the Dunlap Success Center and the Askew Student Life Center.  If your organization is interested in work space, please fill out an application and turn it in to OMA by January 13th, 2010. Open to both undergraduates and graduate students, you can choose from 11 certificate themes including Area/Regional Studies, Cultural Expression and Performance, Environment, International Business, Global Issues, International Development, Professional & Human Services, Religion, Global Hunger, Women’s Studies, and Human Rights. You may choose based on your interest and goals, take related academic courses and a language, and participate in international and/or cross-cultural experiences and events to enhance your theme. Such active learning and reflection, together with cross-cultural interaction, dialogue and service help provide the invaluable cross-cultural skills and competencies needed to be a global-ready graduate.

FSU ranks in undergraduate degrees awarded to African-American and Hispanic students

In 2007, Diverse Issues in Higher Education ranked Florida State University as one of the top universities in the nation producing minority graduates. FSU ranks 5th in bachelors degrees awarded to African American undergraduates and is the top producer in the nation of African-American baccalaureates among doctoral universities.

In 2008, The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education's rankings of the top 100 Colleges for Hispanics ranked FSU 29th in the nation in bachelor's degrees and 61 in master's degrees awarded to Hispanics. In addition, FSU was ranked 40th in the nation in colleges enrolling the most Hispanic students.
